A note from Nathalie.
Dear guests of Nathalie's,
No matter how much I keep the concept of Wonder Woman as a guide, I can't control everything. Unfortunately, it has come to the point where I have to close Nathalie's. The final food service will be Saturday night, November 5. It is Guy Fawkes Day, the day we “Remember, remember the fifth of November,” and I certainly will. I am heartbroken to do this, but some things just have to be, despite one's dream.
These three years of welcoming you to "my house” have been fabulous, with wonderful memories that I will hold dear. That is the feeling that I tried to create for you: having a special dinner at someone's house who brings out the silver and roses, good food and wine, music in the background, and you get to linger in an elegant setting.
I am glad to have been able to save such a beautiful house in St. Louis's Central West End, an area that showcases the city's architectural history. And that was one of the special things about Nathalie's: it was a house in which there was a restaurant. That truly is unique.
I am so very grateful to all of the dear musicians who have become my friends over these years. The quality of their performances right there in my restaurant continually blew me away. Other restaurants can say that they have live music but many just have bodies with musical instruments, not the caliber of the performers to whom I was honored to listen. I am going to miss them so much.
And my staff; through all of the ups and downs, my staff in these final days has shown that they are both professionals and family. I hope that we will be friends always.
I hoped that Nathalie's would become a conduit for St. Louisans to connect to the beautiful Missouri countryside where my treasured Overlook Farm is located. Many of you have, and I hope that you will continue to do so. The attention to the elegant pampering of our guests will continue in our inns in Clarksville and with the small events held there. My Overlook Farm family team is going to focus on the meats, fish, and produce that we've been raising following humane, organic practices, providing them to you and to restaurants who are like-minded and value the healthiest, freshest food.
I had wanted to be walking those floors at Nathalie's when I was 90, but that is just not meant to be. Life is full of moments when some doors close and others open. Here's to the future.
Last night was November, 5th 2016.
